The first Saturday in the month saw a slight break in the wet weather. Here is the estuary at Sandside, with a good dusting of snow on the Kentmere fells behind.

The gent front left with the tall hat is supposed to be John Dixon (1787 - 1866) who followed his father William Dixon and grandfather Thomas Dixon as steward at the wad mine.

Road works on the Borrowdale Road around Watendlath road end will stop vehicle access until around the end of March. This will require a detour via either Whinlatter Pass, Lorton, Buttermere, and Honister Pass (the official detour) or perhaps more reasonably via Portinscale, Swinside, and Grange. The middle of the month saw some snow on the hills, but the weather was poor with lots of precipitation and strong winds, making access difficult. Here is the Coniston range from Troutbeck Bridge.


Chiz Dakin is a member of the Oread club, and she's currently working on Terry Abrahams film about Scafell Pike, shooting night-time timelapse footage from a variety of locations for him. As she has reciprocal rights as a member of Oread, she will be using High House as a bad weather base, and also as a safe place to leave her campervan: if you see her there, say hello! On the 16th day of the month we had a decent Sunday at last. A lovely sunny day with a decent covering of snow gave good conditions. Here is the view towards the Langdale fells from Caudale Moor.

	On the 18th, Roger, Mick, Norman, and Hugh gave a slideshow of their trip to Sicily last October to ascend and view its three volcanoes - Etna, Stromboli, and Vulcano. Here is Roger narrating and still recovering from his broken shoulder.

The following day, the snow continued to melt. Here is the head of Ullswater looking up Grisedale.

Mid-week Walk - A Walk from Ings With Roger incapacitated by his broken shoulder, he handed the leadership of his walk to Mick. A poisoned chalice of sorts as it turned out to be another wet day. After coffee in the Watermill, the decision was made to follow more or less Roger's intended walk 'and see how far we get'. Heading up the road by Grassgarth, the route headed north to eventually cross Park Beck and lunch was taken behind the wall. Turning south towards the Kentmere Valley, the bridleway was followed down to Browfoot and back to Ings via Hugill Hall. A wet day throughout with no respite - thanks Roger!
